Department Representatives are students who volunteer to stay informed about union issues and actions, provide feedback on students needs and preferences, and act as a vocal point for department faculty and administration.
The union relies on a well-informed bargaining unit who will come out to actions, lend their voice, and make final decisions on upcoming contract changes, advocacy campaigns, and strategy.
The time commitment is minimal with a biweekly lunch meeting that includes snacks and refreshments. Otherwise, representatives can choose to be involved at various levels depending on their own time. Other opportunities include to contribute to graduate student’s labour rights includes assisting with writing and designing the GradAdvocate, and assist with graduate student and faculty outreach.
